Shooting at Howe Park Sends 4 People Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade
Sacramento authorities are examining a gun violence incident that unfolded on April 18 2026 at Howe Park at the moment law enforcement were dissolving an unlawful assembly of several hundred people.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park just after half past six in the evening after getting calls of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, a follow-up call was made concerning an alleged brawl happening within the park grounds.
A sheriff's airship searched from above but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Despite this, deputies found that a crowd of several hundred had gathered without authorization without authorization.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering attendees to disperse at once. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for attendees to disperse.
Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition were discharged. The rapid succession of shots triggered a stampede. Responding personnel quickly moved to locating website gunshot victims.
The Shooting Victims
By the time the scene was secured, four individuals were located with gunshot injuries. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two were treated for serious injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. According to authorities, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department provided support and helped care for shooting victims at the park.
Evidence at the Scene
The primary shooting scene appears to have been concentrated near the Cottage Way corridor close to the Home Depot store on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators found additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the iron perimeter fence alongside the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence showed that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel kept processing evidence well into the night.
Detainees in Solano County
Information obtained via scanner audio established that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Deputies were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for processing in Sacramento County. Video reviewed at the scene revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
